4 Troubleshooting Your PC Recovering Hard Disk Contents Recovering Hard Disk Contents In the unlikely event of a hard disk crash, you can recover all the software that was preloaded on your PC's hard disk when the PC was manufactured. You can recover, for example: • The PC's operating system. • Any HP-supplied drivers (for example, video, IDE and LAN). • Any HP-designed manageability applications (for example, HP TopTools and HP DiagTools). NOTE Any software that has been installed on the PC after it was manufactured, and any personal data that has been generated by applications installed on the PC, are not covered by the recovery process. Changing the Hard Disk If the hard disk is corrupted and you can no longer use it, you should replace it with a new hard disk drive. Refer to the information given in earlier chapters of this guide for information about installing hard disk drives. If the replacement hard disk drive is brand new, you will need to partition and format the drive. Refer to your operating system documentation for information about how to do this. English 75
