3 Security Features Setting Passwords Setting Passwords Your PC has two types of passwords: • BIOS passwords. You can set two passwords, the Administrator password and the User password, to provide two levels of protection for your PC. You set both passwords via the Security menu of the Setup program. • Software passwords. Operating systems such as Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95 have a password facility. Refer to your operating system documentation for more information. Using BIOS Passwords You can only set a User password if you have already set an Administrator password. Both User and Administrator passwords can be used as power-on passwords or to protect the PC's setup configuration (via the Setup program). If passwords have been set, to have full access to the configuration settings in the PC's Setup program, you must use the Administrator password. The User password provides only limited access. The Password Check item in the Security menu controls whether the PC checks for passwords every time you start the PC, or only when you attempt to access the Setup program. 54 English
