5.0 Defect flagging strategy Media defects are remapped to the next available sector during the Format Process in manufacturing. The mapping from LBA to the physical locations is calculated by an internally maintained table. Shipped format • Data areas are optimally used. • No extra sector is wasted as a spare throughout user data areas. • All pushes generated by defects are absorbed by the spare tracks of the inner zone.
