Removing or installing the microprocessor This section provides instructions on how to remove or install the microprocessor. Removing the microprocessor Attention: Do not open your server or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the "Safety information" on page iii and "Guidelines" on page 35. This section provides instructions on how to remove the microprocessor. CAUTION: The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the server and wait three to five minutes to let the server cool before removing the server cover. To remove the microprocessor, do the following: 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server. 2. Remove the server cover. See Removing the server cover. 3. Remove the microprocessor fan duct. See Removing the microprocessor fan duct. 4. Remove the heat sink. See Removing the heat sink. 5. Lift the small handle and open the retainer to access the microprocessor. Then, carefully lift the microprocessor straight up and out of the socket, and place it on a static-protective surface. Note: Touch only the edges of the microprocessor. Figure 57. Removing the microprocessor 6. If you are instructed to return the microprocessor, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping. 7. Removing or installing the microprocessor

Removing the microprocessor
Attention:
Do not open your server or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the “Safety information”
on page iii and “Guidelines” on page 35.
This section provides instructions on how to remove the microprocessor.
CAUTION:
The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the server and wait three to
five minutes to let the server cool before removing the server cover.
To remove the microprocessor, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all
power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.
2. Remove the server cover. See Removing the server cover.
3. Remove the microprocessor fan duct. See Removing the microprocessor fan duct.
4. Remove the heat sink. See Removing the heat sink.
5. Lift the small handle and open the retainer to access the microprocessor. Then, carefully lift the
microprocessor straight up and out of the socket, and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note:
