Printed Surface Is Scratched/Paper Is Smudged Cause Action Paper Feed Roller is dirty. If paper is not feeding properly, clean the Paper Feed Rollers. Cleaning the Paper Feed Rollers will wear the rollers, so perform this procedure only when necessary. For details on cleaning, see "Cleaning the Roller (Roller Cleaning)" of the User's Guide on-screen manual. Inside of the printer is dirty. Performing many printings may leave some ink inside the printer, causing printouts to be smudged. In this case, perform bottom plate cleaning to clean the inside of the printer. "Cleaning the Protrusions Inside the Printer" of the User's Guide on-screen manual. For details on cleaning, see "Cleaning the Interior of the Printer (Bottom Plate Cleaning)" of the User's Guide on-screen manual. Printing on inappropriate type of paper. Check to see if the paper you are printing on is not too thick or curled. When performing Borderless Printing, print quality may be reduced at the top and bottom edges of the paper. Curled paper used If all four corners or the printing surface of the paper is curled, the paper may become dirty or the paper may not feed properly. Use the paper after correcting paper curl as follows. (1) Face up the printing surface*1, and cover it with a non- printing regular paper to avoid damaging the surface. (2) Roll up the paper in a direction opposite to paper curl as the figure below. (1) (2) *1 (3) Check the printing paper if paper curl is corrected within approximately 2 to 5 mm*2. It is recommended to print the curl-corrected paper one sheet at a time. *1 The Paper Thickness Lever position is incorrect. *2 Set the Paper Thickness Lever according to the paper to print. Refer to "Printing Media" of the User's Guide on-screen manual. Depending on the printing content, the printing surface may become scratched even for the types of paper to set the lever to the right. In this case, set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left. * Return the Paper Thickness Lever to the right position after printing. If you do not return the lever, the distance between the Print Head and printing paper stays broadened and the inside of the printer will easily get dirty. The image quality also may be decreased.
