Chapter 6: Setting up the New Drive Manually Creating an NTFS partition in Windows XP If you replaced a hard drive and have Windows XP on your computer, it is not necessary to partition a hard drive that is running NTFS. However, you may want to create an extended partition so logical drives can be assigned. To create an extended partition using Windows XP NTFS: 1 Click Start, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens. If your Control Panel is in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance. 2 Click/Double-click Administrative Tools. 3 Double-click Computer Management. The Computer Management window opens. 4 Double-click Disk Management. 5 Right-click the shaded, unallocated space box. 6 Click New Partition. 7 Complete the New Partition Wizard. Select Extended Partition when prompted for a partition type. 8 Go to "Formatting the New Drive" on page 50. 48 www.gateway.com
