Managing SSMs and Supervisor Modules Chapter 12 Managing Modules Send documentation comments to [email protected] Managing SSMs and Supervisor Modules This section describes the considerations for replacing SSMs and supervisor modules and for upgrading and downgrading Cisco MDS NX-OS and SAN-OS releases. Configuring SSM Global Upgrade Delay When there are multiple SSM/MSMs in the same chassis, you can set the amount of time to delay between the SSM/MSMs in a rolling SSI upgrade. To set the global SSM upgrade delay time, follow these steps: Step 1 Step 2 Command switch# config t switch(config)# ssm upgrade delay {1-600-in-seconds} switch(config)# switch(config)# no ssm upgrade delay switch(config)# Purpose Enters configuration mode. Delays the SSI upgrade on the second and the subsequent SSM/MSMs by the specified time in seconds. Clears the SSI upgrade delay timer. To set the global SSM upgrade delay time, follow these steps. Step 1 Step 2 From the Fabric Manager window, select Physical Attributes > Intelligent Features > SSM Globals tab. The SSM Globals tab is displayed with the list of switches. In the UpgradeDelay column, enter a value between 0 and 600 for each switch. Considerations for Replacing SSMs and Supervisor Modules If you replace an SSM or supervisor module, you should consider the following: • If you replace an SSM with another SSM and the boot image is on bootflash:, respectively, you can leave the boot image installed on the active supervisor. • If you replace an SSM with another SSM and the SSI boot image is on the modflash:, the SSM might not initialize. See the "Recovering an SSM After Replacing Corrupted CompactFlash Memory" section on page 12-29. • If you replace an SSM with any other module, you can leave the boot image installed on the active supervisor or remove it. The active supervisor module detects the module type and boots the module appropriately. • If you replace a supervisor module in a switch with active and standby supervisors, no action is required because the boot image is automatically synchronized to the new supervisor module. • If you replace a supervisor module in a switch with no standby supervisor, you need to reimplement the configuration on the new supervisor. 12-28 Cisco MDS 9000 Family CLI Configuration Guide OL-18084-01, Cisco MDS NX-OS Release 4.x
