Changing Your Backup Settings Customizing Backup Settings - Advanced Note: You should be an advanced user before attempting to change any of the Advanced backup settings. Instead of using a Wizard, you can customize your backup settings using the Advanced Settings window. Any changes you make override the previous backup settings. Note: Setting changes apply only to backups that occur after the change is made, and do not affect your existing backup files. To delete backup files that you no longer want, see Deleting Backup Files on page 5-14. Opening the Advanced Settings Window To open the Advanced Settings window: 1 Open the Adaptec File Saver window by clicking the icon on your desktop or system tray. 2 In the main menu (shown on page page 2-2), click Change Backup Settings. 3 Select Advanced Settings, then click Next. The Advanced Settings window (shown on page 3-6) opens, showing five tabs of information: ■ Include-Lists local drives, folders, files, and file types that are backed up. (See page 3-13.) ■ Exclude-Lists exceptions to the Include list. (See page 3-14.) ■ Preferences-Displays backup settings like logging and compression. (See page 3-16.) ■ Versions-Displays current settings for the number of file versions saved and the time between versions. (See page 3-18.) ■ Advanced-Displays the current settings for advanced options. (See page 3-21.) Note: The Advanced Settings window is also available in each of the Wizards (see page 3-5). 3-12

Note:

Opening the Advanced Settings Window
To open the Advanced Settings window:
