Viewing and Managing Your Backup Files Managing the Backup Database Adaptec File Saver uses a special file called the backup database to speed up performance. The backup database contains a small record for every backup file. The record contains information such as file size, attributes, and modification times. Note: You should be an advanced user before attempting to manage the backup database. Validating the Backup Database You can validate the backup database and check for corrupted files. You might want to do this if a virus has been detected and removed from your computer, and you want to ensure that your files have been correctly restored by the virus scanner. To validate the backup database: 1 Open the Tree view, following the instructions in Viewing Your Backup Files on page 5-2. 2 In the Tools menu, select Advanced, then select Validate Storage. Adaptec File Saver examines the backup database for valid information. Any corrupted files are displayed in red font in the view window, and are listed in the Exceptions view (see page 5-6). Compacting the Backup Database If the Compress files in the backup storage setting (see page 3-18) has been set to Disabled, you can compact the backup database. To initiate an immediate compact of the backup database: 1 Open the Tree view, following the instructions in Viewing Your Backup Files on page 5-2. 2 In the Tools menu, select Advanced, then select Compact database. 5-18
