12 Tracing This chapter describes tracing tools of WiseImage - an interactive procedure that allows you to vectorize any type of raster image, and also to smooth or to delete monochrome raster objects. Tracing is based on the technology of local recognition of geometrical raster entities. Using this technology, the program identifies raster lines as lines, arcs, or circles, and generates the appropriate vector objects. When tracing you specify raster lines on the image, and the program creates vector objects that approximate the lines chosen This method allows you to guide the automatic conversion process the way you wish. When tracing you can classify line widths of raster image objects, transform only the necessary ones and transfer the results to separate layers. Tracing can work on color or grayscale, and monochrome images. You can vectorize raster lines, arcs, circles, arbitrary curves (polylines) and also outlines of vector areas. When processing images, tracing can be used for converting raster objects to vector ones, and also for smoothing, and deleting them. Depending on the specified tracing mode, the raster object is either deleted, or left intact on the image. Thus, it is possible to transform a raster line to vector object, or only to create a vector copy of a raster line. You can also set the mode, in which tracing does not create any replacement vector objects thus deleting them. Another mode that automatically replaces a raster line by the rasterized vector object is available. Tracing can work on color, grayscale, and monochrome images. With color and gray scale images, tracing can not be only used for vectorization of symbols and hatches. On such images you can vectorize raster lines, arcs, circles, and polylines (linefollowing).
