For Windows® 98/Me users Overview Microsoft's Windows® 98/Me operating systems feature built-in networking capabilities. These capabilities allow a Windows® PC to be configured as a client workstation in a file server based network environment. For smaller networks, Windows® 98/Me also allows the PC to operate in a peer-to-peer mode. In this mode, the PC can share resources with other PCs on the network without the need for a central file server. Quick Tips: 1 The Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) protocol automatically assigns an IP address from the range: 169.254.1.0 to 169.254.254.255. If you want to disable the APIPA protocol, set APIPA to Off using control panel. For more information see page 2-8. If the APIPA protocol is disabled, the default IP address of a Brother Print/Fax server is 192.0.0.192. To change it, use the machine's control panel, the BRAdmin Professional utility software or let your DHCP server allocate an IP address to the printer. 2 Refer to chapter 2 of this user guide to learn how to configure the IP address on your machine. 3 The default password for Brother Print/Fax servers is access. Driver Deployment Wizard This installer includes the Windows driver and Brother network port driver (LPR). If the administrator installs the printer driver and port driver using this software, they can save the file to the File server or send the file in an E-mail to other users. 98/Me operating systems feature built-in
networking capabilities. These capabilities allow a Windows

PC to

For smaller networks, Windows

Quick Tips:

The Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) protocol
automatically assigns an IP address from the range:
169.254.1.0 to 169.254.254.255. If you want to disable the
APIPA protocol, set APIPA to Off using control panel. For more
information see page 2-8.
If the APIPA protocol is disabled, the
default IP address of a Brother Print/Fax server is 192.0.0.192.
