NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer). 14.1 Removing the Palm Rest 1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 164H 2. Remove the hinge cover (see Removing the Hinge Cover). 165H 3. Remove any installed media bay device (see XBay Devices). 16H 4. Remove the keyboard (see Keyboards). 167H 5. Remove the display assembly (see Removing the Display Assembly). 168H 6. Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board (see Coin-Cell Battery). 169H NOTE: You can leave the coin-cell battery in place (on the palm rest) unless you are installing a replacement palm rest, in which case you need to remove the coin-cell battery and place it in the replacement palm rest. 7. Palm Rest

Removing the Palm Rest

2.
Remove the hinge cover (see

).
3.
Remove any installed media bay device (see

).
4.
Remove the keyboard (see

).
5.
Remove the display assembly (see
Removing the Display Assembly
).
6.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board (see
Coin-Cell Battery
).
NOTE:
You can leave the coin-cell battery in place (on the palm rest) unless you are
installing a replacement palm rest, in which case you need to remove the coin-cell battery
and place it in the replacement palm rest.
7.
Remove the five screws from the top of the palm rest.
