Sharing the scanner The HP scanning software includes HP PrecisionScan LAN, a feature that allows a user on one PC to use the scanning software with a scanner attached to another PC. This feature is useful in workgroups where you want to share the scanner but the scanner is not physically connected to a local area network. HP PrecisionScan LAN requires two PCs: one with the scanner connected to it (the host PC) and one that is not connected to the scanner (the remote PC). Both PCs must be on the same local area network.
