Management Interfaces The FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV can be managed over the serial port via a terminal or terminal emulation utility or over Ethernet via a Telnet utility, or Internet Web browser. FTP support provides additional management functionality. Serial The serial port allows for configuration of bridge settings from an attached terminal or terminal emulator. For instructions on use of the serial interface, refer to Serial or Ethernet Interface on page 111. Note A Serial connection cannot be made if a Telnet session (see below) is already open. If a user attempts to open a serial connection while a Telnet session is already open, the message "System in use via Telnet. Shell restarted." appears over the serial interface. The serial interface will resume working when the Telnet session closes. Ethernet The 10/100BaseT Ethernet port must first be configured via the serial port with an appropriate IP address, subnet mask, and gateway prior to use unless the default values are to be used. The factory default values that are used by the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV are IP address 1.1.1.1, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and a gateway address of 0.0.0.0. When setting the IP address for the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV FC bridge, there are two options (both described in Chapters 4 and 5, under Ethernet Configuration). The first option is to enter a fixed, or permanent, IP address for the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV. The second option is to enable DHCP on the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV so that a DHCP server (on the Ethernet network used by the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV) can assign a dynamic IP address to the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV. Your DHCP server may also allow you to setup a lease reservation for an IP address by providing the server with the Ethernet MAC address of the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/1 HV.
