Controller LUN Commands

Page 197 highlights

Controller LUN Commands B The HP Surestore Bridge FC 2/1LV and FC 4/1 HV models support a set of SCSI-3 commands that can be received as FCP commands over the Fibre Channel bus or as SCSI commands over a SCSI bus. These commands are hereafter referred to as Controller LUN commands. These commands provide support for a number of value added features including: ■ Copy Manager ■ In-Band Management. When using Controller LUN commands to access Copy Manager and In-Band Management, the commands must be sent to the controller LUN(s) of the bridge. Controller LUNs are addressable in all addressing modes. In SCC mode, there is just one controller LUN. In Auto-Assigned and Indexed modes, there can be up to a total of four configurable controller LUNs on the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/ 1 HV bridges. These controller LUNs allow the host software to run multiple concurrent Extended Copy Commands - each controller LUN being capable of supporting one Extended Copy operation. It is also possible to initiate Extended Copy operations by sending commands to any tape device LUN on the bridge. As a result, there can be numerous concurrent copy commands active at one time. When the bridge is configured in the Indexed or Auto-Assigned modes there is also a controller LUN at LUN 0x7f. This specific LUN offers an additional way to address the controller LUN at a known fixed address. This controller LUN only gets reported to the Host when the bridge is in Indexed mode. Note Auto Assigned Mode - Controller LUNs are numbered in sequence following the last device LUN. There is no gap between device LUNs and controller LUNs. 199

Controller LUN Commands
The HP Surestore Bridge FC 2/1LV and FC 4/1 HV models support a set of
SCSI-3 commands that can be received as FCP commands over the Fibre
Channel bus or as SCSI commands over a SCSI bus. These commands are
hereafter referred to as Controller LUN commands. These commands provide
support for a number of value added features including:
Copy Manager
In-Band Management.
When using Controller LUN commands to access Copy Manager and In-Band
Management, the commands must be sent to the controller LUN(s) of the
bridge.
Controller LUNs are addressable in all addressing modes. In SCC mode, there
is just one controller LUN. In Auto-Assigned and Indexed modes, there can be
up to a total of four configurable controller LUNs on the FC 2/1 LV and FC 4/
1 HV bridges. These controller LUNs allow the host software to run multiple
concurrent Extended Copy Commands — each controller LUN being capable
of supporting one Extended Copy operation.
It is also possible to initiate Extended Copy operations by sending commands
to any tape device LUN on the bridge. As a result, there can be numerous
concurrent copy commands active at one time.
When the bridge is configured in the Indexed or Auto-Assigned modes there is
also a controller LUN at LUN 0x7f. This specific LUN offers an additional way
to address the controller LUN at a known fixed address. This controller LUN
only gets reported to the Host when the bridge is in Indexed mode.
Note
Auto Assigned Mode — Controller LUNs are numbered in
sequence following the last device LUN. There is no gap between
device LUNs and controller LUNs.
