M4300 Series and M4300-96X Fully Managed Switches However, if you configure a port for both the voice VLAN and Auto-VoIP with same VLAN ID for both VLANs, and LLDP-MED functions between the switch and VoIP device, the voice VLAN receives priority over Auto-VoIP. In that situation, the VoIP device sends tagged VoIP packets to the switch. If you need a data VLAN, you need to configure it separately because the voice VLAN and Auto-VoIP do not automatically create data a VLAN. If you use a separate data VLAN, the voice VLAN supports segregation and separation of voice traffic from data traffic. The priority that is set in the VLAN header of the tagged VoIP traffic depends on the VoIP device. The following figure shows the ingress port (voice VLAN ID 10) with traffic received from the VoIP device. Figure 5. Ingress packets You can use the CoS override aspect of the voice VLAN (that is, you can use the vlan priority command) to lower the dot1p priority of the ingress port so that untagged data traffic is assigned a lower CoS queue. You must configure the egress port with the voice VLAN as its member (untagged is fine) so that the traffic is forwarded with the voice VLAN tag and with the same priority as the incoming packet from VoIP device (in this case, 5). However, if you configure a port for both the voice VLAN and Auto-VoIP with same VLAN ID

for both VLANs, and LLDP-MED functions between the switch and VoIP device, the voice

VLAN receives priority over Auto-VoIP. In that situation, the VoIP device sends tagged VoIP

packets to the switch.

If you need a data VLAN, you need to configure it separately because the voice VLAN and

Auto-VoIP do not automatically create data a VLAN.

If you use a separate data VLAN, the voice VLAN supports segregation and separation of

voice traffic from data traffic. The priority that is set in the VLAN header of the tagged VoIP

traffic depends on the VoIP device.

The following figure shows the ingress port (voice VLAN ID 10) with traffic received from the

VoIP device.

You can use the CoS override aspect of the voice VLAN (that is, you can use the

vlan

priority

command) to lower the dot1p priority of the ingress port so that untagged data traffic

is assigned a lower CoS queue.

You must configure the egress port with the voice VLAN as its member (untagged is fine) so

that the traffic is forwarded with the voice VLAN tag and with the same priority as the

incoming packet from VoIP device (in this case, 5). This enables the next hop to prioritize the

VoIP traffic.
