ViJeo 8 FOCUS The first time you use the camera, or if somebody else has been using the camera, be sure to set the viewfinder lens adjustment lever to your eyesight before recording. eASOIPS r Following the instructions for basic camera operation on page 15, focus as follows: 0 Make the subject as large as possible in the viewfinder by setting the manual zoom lever 0 to the telephoto position; 0 focus; zoom back so that the subject is the size you want it In the scene. In the telephoto position, the lens' focusing field is very narrow, while in the wide angle position it is much less precise. Therefore, if the subject is focused in the lens' telephoto position, it will stay in perfect focus regardless of subsequent zooming operation. Focus needs to be 'reset only if the distance between the camera and the subject changes. S • When shooting a scene with lots of movement in bright light set the focal length to 3 m and the zoom to wide angle. The scene will remain in good focus regardless of the movement of the subject. • If you don't have time to set the focus properly, set it to the closest approximate position and set the lens at wide angle to avoid out-of-focus shots. The figures on the focus ring indicate the distance between the subject and the f mark on the side of the recorder body. OK • When shooting In low light situations, such as indoors, the depth of field for proper focus becomes very shallow. For best results, set the focus in telephoto, and shoot at wide angles. 18
