Getting Started 55 Caring for your computer Moving the computer Before moving your computer, even across the room, make sure all disk activity has ended (the drive activity lights stop glowing) and all external peripheral cables are disconnected. CAUTION: Never pick up the computer by its display panel or by the back (where the ports are located). Although your notebook computer is built to withstand reasonable shock and vibration, transport it in a carrying case for long trips. You can purchase a carrying case from your Toshiba dealer or through the Toshiba Accessories Catalog. Other precautions Do not spill liquids into the computer's keyboard. If you do spill a liquid that gets into the keyboard, turn off the computer immediately. Leave the computer turned off overnight to let it dry out before you use it again. Never turn off the computer if a disk activity light indicates that a drive is being accessed. Turning off the computer while it is reading from or writing to a disk may damage the disk, the drive, or both. Keep the computer and diskettes away from objects that generate strong magnetic fields, such as large stereo speakers. Information on diskettes is stored magnetically. Placing a magnet too close to a diskette can erase important files. Part I: Getting to Know Your Computer
