Cisco IOS software images cannot be downloaded from the ROM monitor or while the system is booting up. Perform the following steps to update the Cisco IOS software image: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Enter the enable command. Router> enable Copy the Cisco IOS software image from the TFTP server to the router Flash memory using the copy tftp flash command. Router# copy tftp flash Address or name of remote host []? tftp_server Source filename []? /tftpboot/ image name Destination filename [file name]? Accessing tftp://tftp_server//tftpboot/ image name !!!!!!! Specify the new Flash memory image using the config terminal command. Note

Perform the following steps to update the Cisco IOS software image:
Step 1
Enter the
enable
command.
Router>
enable
Step 2
Copy the Cisco IOS software image from the TFTP server to the router Flash memory using the
copy
tftp flash
command.
Router#
copy tftp flash

tftp_server
Source filename []?
/tftpboot/ image name

Step 3
Specify the new Flash memory image using the
config terminal
command.
Router#
config terminal
Router(config)# boot system flash:image name
Router(config)# config-register 0x2102
Step 4
Restart the router using the
reload
command.
