SNMP Commands snmp-server community The snmp-server community Global Configuration mode command configures the community access string to permit access to the SNMP protocol. To remove the specified community string, use the no form of this command. Syntax snmp-server community community [ro | rw | su] [ip-address][view view-name] snmp-server community-group community group-name [ip-address] no snmp-server community community [ip-address] Parameters • community - Community string that acts like a password and permits access to the SNMP protocol. (Range: 1-20 characters) • ro - Indicates read-only access (default). • rw - Indicates read-write access. • su - Indicates SNMP administrator access. • ip-address - Specifies the IP address of the management station. • group-name - Specifies the name of a previously defined group. A group defines the objects available to the community. (Range: 1-30 characters) • view-name - Specifies the name of a previously defined view. The view defines the objects available to the community. (Range: 1-30 characters) Default Configuration No communities are defined. Command Mode Global Configuration mode User Guidelines The view-name parameter cannot be specified for su, which has access to the whole MIB. The view-name parameter can be used to restrict the access rights of a community string. When it is specified: • An internal security name is generated. • The internal security name for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 security models is mapped to an internal group name. • The internal group name for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 security models is mapped to a view-name (read-view and notify-view always, and for rw for write-view also) • The group-name parameter can also be used to restrict the access rights of a community string. When it is specified: • An internal security name is generated. The internal security name for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 security models is mapped to the group name. Page 215
