Chapter 5 Problem Solving 237 Printing is Incomplete or Incorrect (continued) Situation Solution Data is missing, but there z Check your software application to be sure the print file are no printer messages. contains no errors. z Check your cable to make sure that it is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. z Your parallel printer cable may be defective. Use a high-quality cable; see page 38 for an HP cable part number. Printing stops in the middle of the job. z Check the control panel display for an error message. z If you are on a network, make sure the computer is correctly configured and there is not a network problem (see your network administrator). z Check the line voltage to make sure that it is steady and within printer specifications. (See page 328.) Turn the printer off and then back on. z Check the time-out setting in your network application. You might need to increase it. z If you are trying to copy a file to the printer from the DOS prompt, use the copy command COPY [filename] LPTn /B printer port, such as LPT1 (where n is the port number).
