If the port flashes fast green one-half second flash, not a flickering light, problem

Page 56 highlights

c. Insert one of the small single-GBIC port-wrap connectors (black if the GBIC is shortwave, or gray if it is longwave). Wait 10 seconds and observe the associated port LED. If it is flashing green, the GBIC and port are both functional. Do this for all suspect ports. If all ports show a flashing green port indicator, it will be necessary to check other customer configuration information or the associated fibre-channel cables. See "Checking the customer configuration action" on page 42 and "Suspect fibre-channel cable action" on page 42. d. If any port does not flash green and you have another port and GBIC to use for a test, swap the GBICs between the ports and try the wrap again. e. If the failure (not flashing green) stayed with the port, replace the system board. If the failure followed the GBIC, replace the GBIC. f. In either case, see "Replacing the system board assembly" on page 49. When replacing the system board, mark all cables and GBICs to ensure that they are returned to the same slots. Replacing the system board disrupts the switch operation. Ensure that all traffic on the switch is paused. g. If you only have this one port available and all others are functional, replace the GBIC. h. If other ports are available but not other GBICs, insert the suspect GBIC and wrap connector in an empty port. If the associated port indicator does not flash green, replace the GBIC. See "Replacing a GBIC module" on page 47. i. If the associated port indicator flashes green, reseat the GBIC and wrap connector in its original port. If the associated port indicator does not flash green, replace the system board. See "Replacing the system board assembly" on page 49. When replacing the system board, mark all cables and GBICs to ensure that they are returned to the same slots. Replacing the system board disrupts the switch operation. Ensure that all traffic on the switch is paused. 3. If the port indicator is a steady yellow, the port is receiving light but the attached device is not yet online. The device is likely not in the ready state. Have the customer make the device ready. If the customer is unable to correct the problem, see "Some ports fail to communicate action (action 4)" on page 38. 4. If the port flashes fast green (one-half second flash, not a flickering light), replace the system board. See "Replacing the system board assembly" on page 49. When replacing the system board, mark all cables and GBICs to ensure that they are returned to the same slots. Replacing the system board disrupts the switch operation. Ensure that all traffic on the switch is paused. 5. If the port flashes slow green (2 second flash): a. A slow green flash indicates that a bad cable or a wrap cable is installed. Verify if a wrap cable is installed or if a wrap connector is installed at the other end of the cable. If either of these situations is true, correct it. b. If a wrap cable or wrap connector is not present, replace the cable or ask the customer to have his cabling supplier check the cable, whichever is appropriate. c. If you are replacing the cable, there are field replaceable unit (FRU) part numbers (P/Ns) for 5 m (16.4 ft) and 25 m (82 ft) shortwave cables supplied with this product. See "Parts catalog" on page 45. 6. If the port indicator shows no light and a GBIC is installed. a. If no cable is present this is normal. A cable from an appropriate device needs to be installed if the port is to be used. b. If the device cable is present, insert the cable into the GBIC. 7.
