4. The power switch is in the on position. 5. If the LED is now on, turn the power switch off. Wait 15 seconds and then turn the power switch on. If the power supply LED is again on, return the machine to the customer. 6. If the LED is not on, replace the power supply. See "Replacing the power supply" on page 45. If this is a dual-power machine, the power supply can be replaced without interrupting service. When the power supply is replaced and the power switch is turned on, verify that the ready LED is on. If the ready LED is on, return the machine to the customer. 7. If the ready LED is still not on, replace the chassis. See "Replacing the chassis with touchpad" on page 50. Note: It is extremely unlikely that both power supplies would fail on a dual-power machine. However, if this is a dual-power machine, repeat step 1 on page 41 through step 7 for each power supply. Checking the customer configuration action Check the customer's configuration to make sure that the customer has appropriately configured systems, HBAs, storage devices, and code levels. To obtain the latest information about compatible devices and hosts, see our Web site at: www.ibm.com/storage/fcswitch The HBAs run as full fabric-capable HBAs or as public loop HBAs. Run diagnostics, as available, on the HBAs. Replace the fibre-channel cable if: v The HBAs are correctly configured. v They pass diagnostics. v No faults are found with the switch. See "Suspect fibre-channel cable action". Suspect fibre-channel cable action 1. If the host or device HBA has a diagnostic to wrap a cable, perform this diagnostic. If the test fails, replace the cable or ask the customer to have the cable replaced. 2. If the HBA does not have wrap capability and you have access to both ends of the cable, you can check the cable by plugging it into two shortwave ports on the same switch, if they are available. Before performing this test, make sure that twice the cable's length is less than 500 m (1640 ft) for shortwave. Bad cables can be detected by plugging them into two ports and observing the port indicator lights. If the port indicator light flashes slow green (flashes every two seconds) the cable is OK. If not, the cable is bad. 3. If this is an IBM-provided cable, replace it. There are two lengths of cable available as FRUs for the switch [5 m (16.4 ft) and 25 m (82 ft) shortwave]. If these are appropriate, replace the cable. See "Parts catalog" on page 45. 4. If the cable was obtained from some other IBM product, you need to determine the appropriate FRU. See "Parts catalog" on page 45. 5. If the customer obtained the cable from someone other than IBM, the customer needs to replace the cable. 42 IBM SAN Fibre Channel Switch: 2109 Model S16 Installation and Service Guide
