a. Ensure that the attached device is turned on and ready. b. If the attached device is turned on and ready, see "Some ports fail to communicate action (action 4)" on page 38. Abnormal ready LED action (action 6) You are here because you observed an abnormal ready LED (anything other than steady green). If this is a dual power machine, repeat this procedure for both supplies. 1. Observe the front of the switch. Verify that the green LED on the power supply is on. If the power supply LED is on, go to step 2. If not, verify the following: a. Check that the power supply is seated in the switch chassis. Grasp the handle on the front of the power supply; pull down and out. The power supply should unseat. Reseat the power supply and relock the handle by restoring it to an upright and locked position. b. Check that the power cord is fully seated. c. Check that there is power in the wall outlet. d. Check that the power switch is in the on position. e. If the power supply LED is now on, turn the power switch off. Wait 15 seconds and turn the power switch to on. If the power supply LED is again on, go to step 2. f. If the power supply LED is not on, replace the power supply. See "Replacing the power supply" on page 45. After the power supply is replaced and the power switch is turned on, verify that the switch ready LED is on. If the ready LED is on, return the machine to the customer. g. If the switch ready LED is still not on, continue with step 2. 2. If the power supply LED is on and the ready LED is off or flashing, a system board failure has occurred. a. Before replacing the system board, turn the switch off. Wait 15 seconds and turn the switch back on. b. Wait two minutes and then reverify the ready LED failure. If the ready LED is now a steady green, return the machine to the customer. c. If the ready LED still indicates failure, replace the system board. See "Replacing the system board assembly" on page 49. When replacing the system board, remove and mark all GBICs and cables so they can be returned to the same positions. Replacing the system board disrupts the switch operation. Ensure that all traffic on the switch is paused. d. After marking all GBICs and cables, see "Replacing a GBIC module" on page 47. Abnormal power supply LED action (action 7) You are here as a result of seeing an abnormal indication for a power supply LED. Verify the following: 1. The power supply is seated correctly in the switch chassis: a. Grasp the handle on the front of the power supply; pull down and out. The power supply should unseat. b. Reseat the power supply and relock the handle by restoring it to an upright and locked position. 2. The power cord is fully seated. 3. There is power in the wall outlet. Chapter 4.
