1. Review the information in "Installation guidelines" on page 45, "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 46, and "Safety information" on page 169. 2. Pull out on the orange fan-release latch on the rear fan bracket; then, lift the fan up and out of the hinge cutouts. 3. Touch an unpainted metal part of the server for at least 2 seconds; then, slide the replacement fan into the server. (Make sure that the fan fits correctly into the hinge cutouts on the rear of the server.) 4. When you have the fan properly seated, push on the fan-release latch until it clicks into place. 5. Verify that the FAN LED on the diagnostic LED panel (see "Light path diagnostics" on page 38) is not lit. If the FAN LED is lit, reseat the fan. Replacing the battery IBM has designed this product with your safety in mind. The lithium battery must be handled correctly to avoid possible danger. If you replace the battery, you must adhere to the following instructions. Note: In the U. S., call 1-800-IBM-4333 for information about battery disposal. If you replace the original lithium battery with a heavy-metal battery or a battery with heavy-metal components, be aware of the following environmental consideration. Batteries and accumulators that contain heavy metals must not be disposed of with normal domestic waste. They will be taken back free of charge by the manufacturer, distributor, or representative, to be recycled or disposed of in a proper manner. To order replacement batteries, call 1-800-772-2227 within the United States, and 1-800-465-7999 or 1-800-465-6666 within Canada. Outside the U.S. and Canada, call your IBM reseller or IBM marketing representative. Note: After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure your server and reset the system date and time. Statement 2 CAUTION: When replacing the lithium battery, use only IBM Part Number 33F8354 or an equivalent type battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a module containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module type made by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of. Do not: v Throw or immerse into water v Heat to more than 100°C (212°F) v Repair or disassemble Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations. For further information on battery disposal, call IBM at 1-800-IBM-4333 (1-800-426-4333) in the U.S. For information outside of the U.S., contact an IBM reseller or marketing representative.
