Chapter 6 - Maintain the Printer Replace the Printhead You need to replace the printhead periodically when it wears out due to the rapid heating and cooling process used during printing. How often you need to replace the printhead depends on factors such as what type of images you print, the type of media or ribbon you use, the amount of energy to the printhead, the print speed, and the ambient temperature of the room you print in. The firmware detects the new printhead when you restart the printer. 1 Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord. 2 Pull one or both of the printer latches toward the front of the printer and lift the printer lid. For a thermal transfer printer, remove the ribbon. 3 Press the printhead latches apart until the printhead slides forward. PC23 and PC43 Desktop Printer User Manual 117
