Connecting to a Computer 3 3 Connecting to a Computer In order to send print data from a computer to this machine, or to capture data scanned using this machine, it is necessary to connect this machine to the computer. There are two ways to connect this machine to the computer. A network connection can be used to connect this machine to the computer over a network, or a parallel connection can be used to connect this machine directly to the computer. Network connection Parallel connection Use an Ethernet cable to connect this machine to a network. Use a parallel cable to connect this machine directly to the parallel port of a computer. ✎ Note To connect this machine to a computer using a parallel connection, the optional local interface kit is required. 3.1 Using a Network Connection To use this machine in a network environment, use a 10Base-T/100BaseTX cable (Ethernet cable) to connect this machine to the network. ✎ Important Be sure to use a Category 5 or 5E cable that complies with the 10Base-T/100Base-TX standard. Always use a 10Base-T/100Base-TX cable that is shielded. Failure to do so may result in radio frequency interference. 3-1
