3.11 Hard Disk Test 3 Tests and Diagnostics Subtest 03 Subtest 04 Random address/data This subtest writes random data to random addresses on the HDD cylinder, head, and sector. This data is then read and compared to the original data. Cross talk & peak shift This subtest writes eight types of worst pattern data (shown below) to a cylinder, then reads the data while moving from cylinder to cylinder. Write specified address This subtest writes specified data to a specified cylinder and head on the HDD. Read specified address This subtest reads data which has been written to a specified cylinder and head on the HDD. ECC circuit This subtest checks the Error Check and Correction (ECC) circuit functions of the specified cylinder and head on the HDD.
