3 Formatting a USB Flash Drive If you find that you are unable to use a new, blank USB flash drive or an old one that has been used with other devices, you may need to format it. Formatting erases all the data in the USB flash drive and makes it ready to record. The data erased by formatting will be lost permanently. Check whether or not the USB flash drive contains any important data you wish to keep before executing the operation. Proceed with caution, especially when connecting multiple USB flash drives. 1 Connect the compatible USB flash drive to the [USB TO DEVICE] terminals.
