Change the needle position so that the needle does not f touch the presser foot. For details, refer to "Setting the stitch width/stitch length/"L/R Shift"" on page 38. 1 1 Needle drop point Note • After adjusting the needle position, slowly turn the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise) and check the needle does not touch the presser foot. Securely tighten the positioning screw. g Utility Stitches ■ Inserting a piping Place the piping between two fabrics inside out, as a shown below. 1 Fabric 1 2 Piping 3 Fabric 2 3 Attach the adjustable zipper/piping foot. (page 60) b Sew along the piping. c 3 VARIOUS STITCHES Topstitch around the zipper. h After sewing, turn them over. d 1 3 2 4 1 Stitching 2 Right side of fabric 3 Basting stitching 4 End of zipper opening CAUTION • When sewing, be sure that the needle does not touch the zipper, otherwise the needle may break and cause injury. Remove the basting stitching. i Appliqué, patchwork and quilt stitching ■ Appliqué stitching Baste or glue the appliqué piece to the base fabric to a secure it. IMPORTANT • If glue is used to hold the appliqué in place on the fabric, do not apply glue to areas that will be sewn with the machine. If glue adheres to the needle or bobbin case, the machine may be damaged. Attach the zigzag foot "J" or the open toe foot (sold b separately with some models) shown below.
