8 Reinstalling Your NOS When you use this kit to upgrade your NetServer LXr 8000 to an LXr 8500, you end up with a brand-new server. Reinstalling your NOS is an essential part of this upgrade. Reinstalling the NOS ensures that you can use all of the new features of the NetServer LXr 8500 including support for eight processors and resource mapping. You must perform the following steps: l Run the Setup utility l Run the HP DiagTools utility l Reinstall your NOS Run the Setup Utility You must run the Setup utility to reset your configuration in CMOS before you can reinstall your NOS. 1. Insert the new HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM and turn on power to the HP NetServer LXr 8500. 2. Start the Setup utility by following the onscreen instructions that appear after the first few startup messages. Do the following: a. Select the "Restore Defaults" option. b. Change the "Processor Retest" option to "Yes." This causes the NetServer to evaluate each processor on the next reboot. After the reboot, this option resets automatically to "No." c. If you need to change the boot device priority, select "Boot" from the Setup menu, then select "Boot Device Priority." d. Make other configuration changes as necessary. NOTE Do not assign IRQs manually. The NetServer LXr 8500 uses APIC mode to assign non-conflicting IRQs automatically. Any IRQs you assign manually will be overridden. See the HP NetServer LXr 8500 Installation Guide for more information. e. Save your changes and exit Setup. The NetServer will restart. 77

Reinstalling Your NOS
When you use this kit to upgrade your NetServer LXr 8000 to an LXr 8500, you
end up with a brand-new server. Reinstalling your NOS is an essential part of this
upgrade. Reinstalling the NOS ensures that you can use all of the new features of
the NetServer LXr 8500 including support for eight processors and resource
mapping.
You must perform the following steps:
Run the Setup utility
Run the HP DiagTools utility
Reinstall your NOS
Run the Setup Utility
You must run the Setup utility to reset your configuration in CMOS before you
can reinstall your NOS.
1.
Insert the new
HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM
and turn on power to the
HP NetServer LXr 8500.
2.
Start the Setup utility by following the onscreen instructions that appear
after the first few startup messages. Do the following:
a.
Select the "Restore Defaults" option.
b.
