Chapter 8 Reinstalling Your NOS Run the HP DiagTools Utility HP DiagTools is an offline diagnostic program that validates hardware and helps distinguish hardware problems from software or configuration issues. It is recommended that you run DiagTools now and test your NetServer LXr 8500 before you reinstall your NOS. To run DiagTools you will: l Create two DiagTools diskettes. l Run the Basic System Test. l Create a Support Ticket to view your test results, or print them and keep a permanent copy. l Use the Error Code Viewer to diagnose failed components if necessary. l Use DiagTools to burn in the NetServer LXr 8500. Create HP DiagTools Diskettes Two blank formatted flexible diskettes are required to run HP DiagTools. A third diskette can be used to save your test results in a Support Ticket file. Create your diskettes as follows: 1. Insert the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM if it is not already in place, and power on the NetServer. 2. Choose NetServer Utilities from the Main Menu of the NetServer Navigator. 3. Choose DiagTools Diskette from the NetServer Utilities menu. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen to create both HP DiagTools diskettes. 5. Label the diskettes HP DiagTools Diskette #1 and HP DiagTools Diskette #2. 6. Remove the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM and insert HP DiagTools Diskette #1. 7. Click Exit and press Enter to exit HP NetServer Navigator and restart the NetServer. If the NetServer does not restart, turn off the NetServer power, wait 10 seconds, and turn on power again. 78

Run the HP DiagTools Utility
HP DiagTools is an offline diagnostic program that validates hardware and helps
distinguish hardware problems from software or configuration issues.
It is recommended that you run DiagTools now and test your NetServer LXr 8500
before you reinstall your NOS. To run DiagTools you will:
Create two DiagTools diskettes.
Run the Basic System Test.
Create a Support Ticket to view your test results, or print them and keep a
permanent copy.
Use the Error Code Viewer to diagnose failed components if necessary.
Use DiagTools to burn in the NetServer LXr 8500.
Create HP DiagTools Diskettes
Two blank formatted flexible diskettes are required to run HP DiagTools. A third
diskette can be used to save your test results in a Support Ticket file. Create your
diskettes as follows:
1.
Insert the
HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM
if it is not already in place,
and power on the NetServer.
2. Choose
NetServer Utilities
from the Main Menu of the NetServer
Navigator.
3. Choose
DiagTools Diskette
from the NetServer Utilities menu.
4.
Follow the instructions on the screen to create both HP DiagTools
diskettes.
5.
Label the diskettes
HP DiagTools Diskette #1
and
HP DiagTools
Diskette #2
.
6.
Remove the
HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM
and insert
HP DiagTools
Diskette #1
.
7. Click
Exit
and press
Enter
to exit HP NetServer Navigator and restart the
NetServer.
If the NetServer does not restart, turn off the NetServer power, wait 10
seconds, and turn on power again.
