Troubleshooting Without Diagnostics Solving HP Drive Key Problems If you encounter HP Drive Key problems, common causes and solutions are listed in the following table. Solving HP Drive Key Problems Problem HP Drive Key is not seen as a drive letter in Windows XP. The computer boots to DOS after making a bootable HP Drive Key. The USB interface may not be functioning properly or inoperable Cause The drive letter after the last physical drive is not available. HP Drive Key is bootable. Solution Change the default drive letter for the HP Drive Key in Windows XP. Install the HP Drive Key after the operating system boots. A 3rd party out-of-specification device was inserted into the USB port causing an over-current condition or a USB device may have been improperly removed causing the USB controller to go into an unknown state. ✎ Always be sure to use USB devices that are USB certified. Reboot the computer.
