POST Error Messages Numeric Codes and Text Messages (Continued) Code/Message 1782-Disk Controller Failure 1800-Temperature Alert 1801-Microcode Patch Error Invalid Electronic Serial Number ECC Multiple Bit Error Detected in Memory Module Parity Check 2 Probable Cause Hard drive circuitry error. Internal temperature exceeds specification. Processor is not supported by ROM BIOS. Electronic serial number has become corrupted. Chipset has detected more than one bad bit in a 64-bit quadword of the memory array. Parity RAM failure. Recommended Action 1. Run Computer Setup. 2. Clear CMOS. (See Appendix B, "Password Security and Resetting CMOS.") 3. Check cable seating/jumper settings. 4. Run hard drive diagnostics. 5. Disconnect additional drives. 6. Replace the hard drive. 7. Replace the system board. 1. Check that computer air vents are not blocked and cooling fan is running. 2. Verify processor speed selection. 3. Replace the processor. 4. Replace the system board. Upgrade BIOS to proper version. 1. Run Computer Setup. If Setup already has data in the field or will not allow the serial number to be entered, download from www.hp.com and run SP5572.EXE (SNZERO.EXE). 2. Run Computer Setup and try to enter serial number under Security, System IDs, then save changes. Replace the memory module. Run Computer Setup and Diagnostic utilities.
