Front left and right speakers Center speaker Subwoofer The functions and settings of each speaker are the same as those for the 11.2/11.1-channel speaker layout (see page 21). Surround back left and right speakers The surround back speakers supplement the surround speakers and provide more realistic front-to-back transitions. If you use a single surround back speaker, connect the single surround back speaker to the SUR.BACK/BI-AMP (SINGLE) speaker terminal and place the speaker behind the listening position. The surround back left and right channel signals are mixed down and output at the single surround back speaker when you set "Surround Back" to "Small x1" or "Large x1" (see page 100). Surround left and right speakers Connect the surround speakers to the SURROUND speaker terminals even if you place the surround speakers behind the listening position. For the smooth and unbroken sound field behind the listening position, place the surround left and right speakers farther back compared with the placement in the 11.2/11.1-channel speaker layout. The surround back channel signals are directed to the surround left and right speakers when "Surround Back" is set to "None" (see page 100). Subwoofer See page 26 for details. y You can also use the front presence speakers (see page 27) instead of the surround back speakers. Subwoofer See page 26 for details. For other speaker combinations You can enjoy multi-channel sources with sound field programs by using a speaker combination other than the speaker combinations shown above. Use the automatic setup feature (see page 46) or set the "Speaker Set" parameters in "Manual Setup" (see page 99) to output the surround sounds at the connected speakers. 22 En
