USER'S GUIDE ! Caution Always wait at least 5 seconds after turning off the power before turning it on again. Do not turn the power off while the printer is printing as this may cause a paper jam and adversely affect the printer. The printer performs self-diagnosis at start-up to check its hardware and software. If the printer should find any problems, the display will change to show the corresponding error message. See "TROUBLESHOOTING" in Chapter 6. The display shows several messages quickly at start-up. If the printer detects no errors, the printer initializes. This will take several minutes during which time the LCD will display the following message: LJ WAIT 001P T1 AUTO K C MY Once the printer has finished initializing, it automatically goes on-line and the message changes to show the current printer status and settings as shown below: LJ READY 001P T1 AUTO K C MY AUTO: The auto emulation selection mode is set. LJ: The auto emulation selection is set and the HP PCL5C emulation is currently selected. READY: The printer is ready to print. 001: The number of copies to print is set to 1. P: Portrait print is selected. T1: Paper is fed from Tray1. I : Toner cartridges are full. NOTE: When the toner cartridges become nearly empty, the I indication blinks. The I indication disappears when a color toner is empty. 2-20
