buffer A temporary storage area in computer or printer memory in which data for input or output is stored until it can be processed. cartridge holder The unit that holds the BJ cartridge and its BJ tanks. The cartridge holder remains at rest in the home position on the left side of the printer when the printer is not in use. CMYK An acronym for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black, the four colors used in the standard color model of the printing industry. Commercial 10 (US Commercial) A common size of envelope: 9.5 x 4.1 inches or 241 x 105 mm. composite black The composite black color formed by mixing cyan, yellow, and magenta ink so that they appear almost black on a printout. configuration The defining of certain printer settings to allow the printer to communicate properly with your computer. cpi Characters per inch. A unit of measurement relevant to a fixed-space font. Because all characters have the same width, you can calculate the number of characters printed per inch. Glossary 461
