6: Basic Parameters Fail-Over Settings Fail-over Gateway IP Address An alternate IP address of the router for your current network. Fail-over Gateway IP Address is used if an IP address usually accessible through the default gateway fails to return one or more pings. Fail-back occurs when the Ping device becomes reachable again, causing the primary default route to be restored. Note: The fail-over gateway is not supported when DHCP is used on the primary interface because as a fail-back it needs a consistent IP address to update the routing table. If a fail-over gateway is configured, the Default Gateway must be configured for fail-over and fail-back to work properly (gateways acquired via DHCP can change or be removed). When Eth2 is used as the Fail-over Port the Fail-over Gateway IP Address must be in the same subnet as the Eth2 network. When Internal modem is used as the Fail-over Port, the Fail-over Gateway IP Address should be set to the Remote IP address for the PPP connection. For information, see Chapter 9: Internal Modem Settings on page 209. For information about specific requirements for configuring each type of port/ interface, see Fail-over Port. When a cellular modem is used as the Fail-over Port and it is configured for DHCP, whenever the IP address of the cellular modem changes, the IP address of the Failover Gateway will be automatically updated to be the same as the new cellular modem IP address. IP Address to Ping to IP address to ping to determine whether to use the fail-over gateway. Trigger Fail-over Ethernet Port for Ping Ethernet port to use for the ping. Delay between Pings Number of seconds between pings Number of Failed Pings Number of pings that fail before the SLC 8000 advanced console manager uses the fail-over gateway.
