System Information and System Setup This section describes the commands you use to view system information and to setup the network device. Table 1-1 contains the Quick Start commands that allow you to view or configure the following information: • Software versions • Physical port data • User account management • IP address configuration • Uploading from Networking Device to Out-of-Band PC (Only XMODEM) • Downloading from Out-of-Band PC to Networking Device (Only XMODEM) • Downloading from TFTP Server • Restoring factory defaults If you configure any network parameters, you should execute the following command: copy system:running-config nvram:startup-config This command saves the changes to the configuration file. You must be in the correct mode to execute the command. If you do not save the configuration, all changes are lost when a you power down or reset the networking device. In a stacking environment, the running configuration is saved in all units of the stack. Table 1-1 describes the command syntax, the mode you must be in to execute the command, and the purpose and output of the command. Table 1-1. Quick Start Commands Command show hardware show users show loginsession Mode Description Privileged Shows hardware version, MAC address, and software version EXEC information. Privileged EXEC Displays all of the users that are allowed to access the networking device. Access Mode shows whether you can change parameters on the networking device (Read/Write) or can only view them (Read Only). As a factory default, the 'admin' user has Read/Write access and the 'guest' user has Read Only access. There can only be one Read/Write user. There can be up to five Read Only users.
