Additional Information "Hi-MD mode" and "MD mode" This player has two operation modes, "Hi-MD mode" and "MD mode" that are automatically recognized whenever a disc is inserted. Disc Mode 1GB Hi-MD disc Hi-MD 60/74/80-minute Blank disc The operation standard disc mode set in the "Disc Mode" menu is applied. Disc Hi-MD containing music in Hi-MD mode Disc MD containing music in MD mode JPEG JPEG is a compression format for the color still images often used on the internet. The images shot using this player are recorded in JPEG format in the disc. Linear PCM Linear PCM is a digital, non-compressed audio coding system. You can enjoy highquality sound equal to that of CDs by recording in this mode. Net MD Net MD is a technical standard that allows you to transfer audio data from a computer to a MiniDisc using an USB cable. Previously, it was impossible to record audio data from a computer because the only source audio data that could be recorded were analog signals from a microphone and analog input or PCM audio of music CDs. Using the software (SonicStage, etc.) that meets the technology of copyright protection ("OpenMG," "MagicGate," etc.), the audio data format can be converted to "ATRAC" or "ATRAC3," which makes it possible to then transfer the audio data to a MiniDisc. 1) Copyright technology to manage audio data stored in your computer from audio CDs 2) Technology to authenticate copyright protection between computer and NetMD equipment 3) Conventional format to be transferred when recording to MiniDisc Continued 67
