Printer Does Not Start or Stops Mid-job I Checking the Printer and Computer Connection If you have problems with the printer, the cause may be in the hardware you are using to connect the printer and computer. • If you are using a switching device, USB hub or external buffer, disconnect the device and connect the printer directly to the computer again. If you can print normally with the direct connection, contact the manufacturer of the device. • The printer cable may be faulty, or you may be using the wrong type of cable. Replace the printer cable and try again. Recommended printer cable specifications are as follows: When using the parallel interface Material: AWG28 or larger Type: Twisted-pair shielded cable Length: Up to 2.0 m (6.5 ft) Connectors: Amphenol 30360 or equivalent When using the USB interface Material: AWG28 (data wiring pair) or AWG20 to 28 (distribution pair) Type: Twisted-pair shielded cable Length: Up to 5.0 m (16.4 ft) Connectors: USB standard Series B pluggable Troubleshooting 198
