5-6 Compaq Professional Workstation AP550 Maintenance and Service Guide Enabling a Setup or Power-On Password To enable the Setup or Power-on Password features: 1. Turn off the workstation. CAUTION: Before removing the workstation access panel, ensure that the workstation is turned off, all cables are disconnected from the back of the workstation, and the power cord is disconnected from the grounded AC outlet. 2. Remove the workstation access panel. 3. Install the jumper on the E49 Clear Password header on the system board. 4. Reassemble and restart the workstation. 5. Turn on the workstation, and establish a Setup or Power-on Password by following the instructions in the "Setup Password" section located in this chapter. Windows NT Workstation Password To establish a password in Windows NT Workstation: 1. Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools. 2. Click User Manager, then follow the instructions to set a new password for "new user."

Enabling a Setup or Power-On Password
To enable the Setup or Power-on Password features:
1.
Turn off the workstation.
CAUTION:
Before removing the workstation access panel, ensure that the workstation is
turned off, all cables are disconnected from the back of the workstation, and the power cord is
disconnected from the grounded AC outlet.
2.
Remove the workstation access panel.
3.
Install the jumper on the E49 Clear Password header on the system board.
4.
Reassemble and restart the workstation.
5.
Turn on the workstation, and establish a Setup or Power-on Password by following the
instructions in the “Setup Password” section located in this chapter.
