Connecting to the Internet Through a Modem/Telephone Connection Connect the telephone line to the modem, which is inside the computer. 1 Plug the modem cable (provided in the computer box) into the computer modem connector and to your telephone line wall jack connector. 2 Optionally, you can plug a telephone cable into the computer telephone connector and into a telephone. (Telephone and cable are not provided.) With a telephone connected to the modem, you can make regular (voice) telephone calls when you are not using the modem - even if the PC is turned off. n Setting Up Connecting to the Internet Through a Network Port (LAN) The network interface adapter (also called a network interface card, or NIC) connects to an Ethernet (10BaseT) or Fast Ethernet (100BaseT) network hub. Connect this adapter in your PC to your LAN (local area network) hub or any broadband connection. 1 Plug a network cable into the Ethernet (RJ-45) port on the back of the PC. 2 Plug the other end of the network cable into a 10BaseT or 100BaseT port on the network hub. RJ-45 port The green LED (light-emitting diode) indicates a valid connection. Do not plug a network cable into a telephone wall jack or a telephone cable into a network port.
