Step1 Load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder (See "Loading the Print Media in the Auto Sheet Feeder" on page 27). Load paper in the Cassette (See "Loading the Print Media in the Cassette" on page 31). z The paper size should be A4, LTR or LGL. z Load legal-size paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder. Faxing
Paper Size and Type
Load A4- or letter-size plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or Cassette when you print the fax.
Step1
Load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder (See
“Loading the Print Media in the Auto Sheet Feeder” on
page 27
).
Load paper in the Cassette (See
“Loading the Print Media in the Cassette” on page 31
).
The paper size should be A4, LTR or LGL.
Load legal-size paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Step2
Select the receive mode (See
“Receive Modes” on page 80
).
If you want to receive only faxes automatically with your machine, or you have a
dedicated telephone line for fax use only:<FAX ONLY MODE>
If you receive mainly voice calls and sometimes faxes, or you want to receive faxes
manually:<MANUAL MODE>
If you want to receive voice messages on your answering machine and receive faxes
automatically:<ANS.MACHINE MODE>
If you want to receive faxes automatically as well as voice calls:<FAX/TEL AUTO SW>
If you have subscribed to a Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) service with your

Note
You have to connect a telephone to the External Device Jack when you set <MANUAL
MODE>, <FAX/TEL AUTO SW>, <NETWORK SWITCH>, or <DRPD>.
You have to connect an answering machine to the External Device Jack when you set
<ANS.MACHINE MODE>.
Important
Load legal-size paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
If the paper size is set to a setting other than <A4> or <8.5 x 11>, the received faxes will not
be printed, and the LCD will display <CHANGE PAPER TO> and <RECEIVED IN
MEMORY>. Change the paper size setting to <A4> or <8.5 x 11>, and then press [OK].
If a size of paper other than A4, 8.5 x 11 or 8.5 x 14 is loaded in the paper source specified
under [Feed Switch], only one sheet of the loaded paper is printed and <CHECK PAGE
SIZE> is displayed. Replace the paper loaded in the specified paper source with A4, 8.5 x
11 or 8.5 x 14 then press [OK].
The auto feed function can be applied when the paper size for both paper sources is set to
<A4> or <8.5 x 11>. See
“About the Auto Sheet Feeder and Cassette” on page 24
.
