Since these characters are smaller, when you define them you need only two bytes of data for each vertical row of dots. Design grids for these characters are shown in the following figure. Draft pica Letter Quality and Proportional Mixing print styles Each of the three user-defined character modes (draft, Letter Quality, and proportional) can be used in combination with most of your printer's various print styles. For instance, you can use emphasized with your user-defined characters. Mixing the three types of user-defined character sets is not permitted. If, for example, you select draft mode and define some characters, then select proportional and define some more, the first character definitions are destroyed. Only one type of character definition may be stored in RAM at any time. If you define characters in one mode, then switch to another mode and select the user-defined character set, the command is ignored and nothing is printed. The user-defined character definitions, however, remain unaffected. If you switch back to the mode in which they were defined, you can then select and print them. 4-32 Using Software and Graphics
