6.14.3.2 HP VFD Display When the pole display has power the following message is scrolled on the display until an application takes control of the pole display. For the HP VFD Display there are two lines; the top line is centered and the bottom line will display a scrolling message. The default message that is displayed on the HP VFD Display is: HP VFD Display ..... Thank You and Have a Nice Day .... If one wishes to change the power on message one may do so by running "HP Display Setup Utility" program. This program can be found on HP.COM. This utility is not included in the HP factory image. Please note this only changes the power-on message on the pole display; once the POS application has started, the POS application will control what is being displayed on the pole display. Utility to Change Default Power-On Message for HP VFD Display The following is an overview of the steps to test the power-on message utility followed by detailed steps: 1. Open HP Display Setup Utility. • Only available from HP.COM. 2. Confirm the correct virtual COM port was automatically detected by the utility. 3. Click the Obtain Setting from Display button. 4. Enter the message that you wish to be displayed. Information that is entered on line1 and/or line 2 will automatically be converted to hex by the utility. 5. Click the Download Setting to Display button to save the message to the pole. 6. Once the message has been written successfully, a restart of the pole is required. The pole can be restarted by using the power button, by restarting the computer, or by unplugging and re-plugging the pole into the USB port. Detailed Steps 1.
