Installing the HP Surestore Bridge This section describes how to install the bridge, including factors to consider when unpacking the bridge for the first time. The bridge can be setup as either a desktop or rackmount installation and can be connected to different types of devices. Note Please read this chapter carefully and completely before working with the bridge. Location Before physically installing the bridge, consider the location, intended use, and the type of devices to which the bridge will be attached. See Chapter 2 for more information. The bridge can be placed on a desktop, mounted in the accessory bin of the HP 10/180 or HP 20/700 libraries, or mounted in a standard 19-inch rack. The operating environment should meet the requirements found in Environmental Specifications on page 28. If you plan to use the bridge on a table top, attach the stick-on feet to the bottom of the bridge to protect the table surface. Note The bridge has a cooling fan mounted in the back of the enclosure and air intake vents on the front of the enclosure. The back fan vent and the front air intake vents should remain clear of obstructions to ensure proper airflow. Note Do not connect any devices or cables to the bridge until the bridge is secured in a rack or placed on a flat, level surface. 50 Installing the HP Surestore Bridge Chapter 3

Chapter 3
Installing the HP Surestore Bridge
This section describes how to install the bridge, including factors to consider
when unpacking the bridge for the first time. The bridge can be setup as either
a desktop or rackmount installation and can be connected to different types of
devices.
Note
Please read this chapter carefully and completely before working
with the bridge.
Before physically installing the bridge, consider the location, intended use, and
the type of devices to which the bridge will be attached. See
Chapter 2
for
more information.
Location
The bridge can be placed on a desktop, mounted in the accessory bin of the
HP 10/180 or HP 20/700 libraries, or mounted in a standard 19-inch rack.
The operating environment should meet the requirements found in
Environmental Specifications
on page 28. If you plan to use the bridge on a
table top, attach the stick-on feet to the bottom of the bridge to protect the table
surface.
Note
The bridge has a cooling fan mounted in the back of the
enclosure and air intake vents on the front of the enclosure. The
back fan vent and the front air intake vents should remain clear
of obstructions to ensure proper airflow.
Note
Do not connect any devices or cables to the bridge until the
bridge is secured in a rack or placed on a flat, level surface.
