AC2000 802.11ac Wireless Access Point/Router WAC124 To back up your Mac onto a USB HDD: 1. Prepare your USB HDD with a compatible format and partitions. For more information, see Set up a USB hard disk drive on a Mac on page 171. 2. If you plan to back up a large amount of data, see Prepare to back up a large amount of data on page 172. 3. Connect a USB HDD storage device to the USB port on the access point/router. 4. If your USB HDD uses a power supply, connect it. You must use the power supply when you connect the USB HDD to the access point/router. When you connect the USB HDD to the access point/router's port, it might take up to two minutes before it is ready for sharing. By default, the USB HDD is available to all computers and mobile devices on the access point/router network. 5. On a Mac computer that is connected to the access point/router network, launch Finder and select Go > Connect to Server. The Connect to Server window opens. 6. Type smb://routerlogin.net and click the Connect button. 7. When prompted, select the Registered User radio button. 8. Enter the same credentials that you use for local login to the access point/router. If you did not yet change the default password for local login, enter admin as the user name and password as the password. 9. Click the Connect button. The USB HDD that is connected to the access point/router displays. 10. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences. The System Preferences window displays. 11. Select Time Machine. The Time Machine window displays. 12. Click the Select Backup Disk button and select your USB HDD from the list. 13. Click the Use Disk button. Note: If you do not see the USB partition that you want in the Time Machine disk list, go to Mac Finder and click that USB partition. It displays in the Time Machine list.
