Chapter 8 VLAN VLAN-aware switch, the Switch first decides where to forward the frame, and then inserts a VLAN tag reflecting the ingress port's default VID. The default PVID is VLAN 1 for all ports, but this can be changed. A broadcast frame (or a multicast frame for a multicast group that is known by the system) is duplicated only on ports that are members of the VID (except the ingress port itself), thus confining the broadcast to a specific domain. 8.2 Static VLAN Use a IEEE 802.1Q VLAN to decide whether an incoming frame on a port should be • sent to a VLAN group as normal depending on its VLAN tag. • sent to a group whether it has a VLAN tag or not. You can also tag all outgoing frames (that were previously untagged) from a port with the specified VID. 8.2.1 IEEE 802.1Q VLAN Screen Use this screen to display IEEE 802.1Q VLAN status. Click VLAN in the navigation panel to display the IEEE 802.1Q VLAN screen as shown next. Figure 33 VLAN: VLAN Status 58 GS-1524/GS-1548 User's Guide
