Send documentation comments to [email protected] Preface This document lists and describes the system messages for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family of directors and multilayer fabric switches. The system software sends these messages to the console (and, optionally, to a logging server on another system) during operation. Not all messages indicate a problem with your system. Some messages are purely informational, while others might help diagnose problems with links, internal hardware, or the system software. This document includes system messages for all Cisco MDS SAN-OS software releases. New system message categories since the last update to the document are listed in Table 1New and Changed Features and Related System Messages. This document is updated for all software releases. This preface describes the audience, organization, and conventions of this guide. It also provides information on how to obtain related documentation. Audience This guide is for system administrators who are responsible for managing Cisco MDS 9000 Family switches and storage subsystems. You should be familiar with the basic concepts and terminology used in internetworking, and understand your network topology and the protocols that the devices in your network can use. Organization This guide is organized as follows: Chapter Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Title Introduction to System Messages for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family System Messages and Recovery Procedures for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family Description Describes the structure of system messages and the format of system log files. Lists the messages that may appear in log files, and indicates suggested remedies where applicable. OL-15956-01 Cisco MDS 9000 Family System Messages Reference xv
